A Little History about our Group
Don't know much about
AfricanWildDogFan? Want to know what the purpose of this Group is? Well look no further!
AfricanWildDogFan was originally created by
GrinyHyena due to her passion for African Wild Dogs. She had invited
katt315 as a Co-Founder to help manage
#AWDF. Unfortunately one day she left DeviantART, leaving the Group to another Co-Founder called
dentduloup. However
katt315 saw the potential and asked for full permission to take over the Group, wanting to become the new Founder to get the Group more active and seen. Over a period of time
katt315 designed (and then commissioned) various Artists to make the banners, Icons and CSS coding for our Group. Examples of Deviants who have helped with our layouts are people such as
SleepingDeadGirl-Founder of SelfInjuryAware, CaninePhotography and CanisPhotography and also, the well known and loved throughout DeviantART, super talented Artist
kalambo!
For more details on the History of our Group, be sure to check out the Interview with katt315 herself! by clicking on A SPECIAL Interview with katt315, Founder of #AfricanWildDogFan in the Interview Section of this News Letter!
Information and Facts on AWDs
The African Wild DogThe African Wild dog is one of the many endangered aniamals on the planet, only about 2000 to 5000 are
left in the world known today. They are known as Lycaon, which stands for "painted wolf- like animal" and
the name suits them for the spots of diffrent colours they have on their backs.Their coats have patches of
brown, beige, and black; but each dog is diffrent.
The average Wild Dog is about the size of a wolf, or a domestic dog, and weighs from 37 to 80 pounds.
They can grow to be 24 to 30 inches high.
These fascinating animals can live up to ten years, that is if they can survive the dangers of their habitat. They can only be found in Africa, south of the Sahara Desert. They prefer to live in grassy areas, and open
woodlands. They eat antelopes, wildebeest, zebra, springboks, impala, and gazelles.
Like the wolf, the African wild dogs hunt in packs, with a leader male, and female. In history
the packs have gotten up to 100 dogs- in a single pack! But now the average number is about 10 in each.
Unlike other canines like wolves, the packs usually have more males than female. There are many threats
to the African wild dog, things such as habitat loss, hunting, poisoning, diseases spread from other
animals, and of course, isolated populations.
